A new cycling and running event is coming to Tauranga.

Bay of Plenty based event company Event Promotions are proud to announce they are bringing a new event, The Mills Reef Running & Cycling Festival to sunny Tauranga on Sunday 14th October, 2012.  The Mills Reef Running & Cycling Festival which is a first of it’s kind for the Tauranga region will be held out of the stunning grounds of Mills Reef Winery in Bethlehem just on the outskirts of Tauranga.  The event will include the Young Read Woudberg 67km Road Cycle and The Bay of Plenty Times 7 km Fun Run / Walk

Young Read Woudberg 67 km Road Cycle

The unique road course for the Young Read Woudberg 67km Road Cycle will start from the Mills Reef Winery and will complete 1 large 67km loop around the surrounding Tauranga Countryside. The circuit will incorporate the new Pyes Pa link Road before making the long shallow climb through beautiful countryside to the top of the Pyes Pa / Oropi Hills. At the top of the course competitors will be treated to fantastic panoramic views of the Kaimais, Tauranga Harbour and Mount Maunganui. The course will then descend through open countryside and native bush into the outskirts of Tauranga before finishing back at Mills Reef Winery.  Event Promotions Operations Manager and course designer Michael Kelly said “the course is fantastic and has a little bit of everything. It is a traditional training route for a lot of cyclists in the Tauranga Region and more recently the part of the course through Oropi and Pyes Pa has been used by the Tauranga Cycling Club for their weekly bunch rides. The profile is undulating but very achievable for all abilities, it would also be a perfect event to use as build for the K2 and Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge events that closely follow.”

The Bay of Plenty Times 7km Fun Run/Walk

Accompanying the Road Cycle the Bay of Plenty Times 7 km Fun Run/Walk provides a great option for those people more inclined to fitness based activities on two legs instead of two wheels. The Fun Run & Walk which also starts and finishes in the  Mills Reef grounds will follow a 1 lap course that winds through surrounding bush and park trails along with the picturesque subdivisions of Bethlehem Heights, Sterling Gate and Ashwood Park. The 7km Fun Run/Walk is ideal for the Fitness Junkie all the way to people wanting to achieve a fitness goals or even those just after a social Sunday walk with friends.

Once finished competitors and supporters will be able to relax and unwind while listening to live Jazz music, wine and cheese tasting or enjoying an amazing lunch from the Mills Reef Restaurant.
